Name:
Vintage Birks Chronograph
Short Description:
Manual wind 2 register chronograph sold by Birks Jewellers in Canada.
Long Description:
A fine quality manual wind Chronograph from the Birks Jewellery Stores in Canada, they have a reputation of being the Tiffany of the north and have carried many high end watch lines over the years such as Rolex, Patek Philippe, Tudor, Omega and others.
This watch features the Birks name right on the dial as opposed to other watches they sold that had the Rideau brand on the dial. The case is very similar to the Heuer Monza being sold by TAG Heuer at present. Even the blue sub-registers have the cushion shaped profile, set against a white background. The over sized stainless steel case is fitted with a screw down caseback and water resistant pushers.
The movement in the watch is the popular 1970's and 1980's model, Valjoux 7733, found in many other brands such as the Tudor Chronograph watches, Breitling Chronographs and others. The 17 jewel Valjoux shockproof movement was just serviced and is keeping excellent time.
The white original dial is in excellent condition. This watch is virtually new old stock as it came from a collection of watches bought as presents and not worn, there are some minor shop wear marks but the radial factory case finish is still present on the top and until it was serviced by my watchmaker, the watch movement had not been touched since leaving the factory. The watch also comes with the original bill of sale and warranty booklet.
The watch measures 36mm wide by 42.5mm long and is supplied on either a tan leather strap to suit a casual sporty feel or a black leather strap, for a dressier look.
