Vintage Universal Geneve pie pan dial watch, near new old stock
Short Description:
Stunning nearly new vintage Universal Geneve with two tone piepan dial.
Long Description:
A Universal Geneve Polerouter watch in near new old stock condition.
This vintage watch does appear to have ever been worn. There is not a mark on it and prior to my watchmaker opening it, had never been opened since leaving the factory.
The Polerouter series was introduced in 1954, to cememorate flights by SAS Airlines over the North Pole as a means of shortening the dastance to the west coast of North America. The Polerouter was designed by Gerald Genta and was designed to withstand incraesed Magnetic fields. The watches originally featured bumper automatic movements then were fitted with the ground-breaking micro-rotor automatic movements. This watch appears to date to 1964 based on the date code in the caseback.
This particular watch has a breathtaking silver and black pie-pan dial with cross-hair lines and a grooved outer chapter ring. The distinctive alpha shaped hands are original to the watch.
The 28 jewel Universal Geneve automatic calibre 218-9, was just serviced by my watchmaker and is keeping excellent time.
The watch measures 34 mm wide excluding the crown and has wonderfully sculpted bombe lugs.
