Name:
1940's WW2 Solar Aqua Rolex/Tudor with 24 hour dial
Short Description:
A hard watch to list. The Solar brand was made by Rolex for Eaton Department store in Canada. A world war 2 period Rolex Oyster.
Long Description:
Many Rolex collectors are aware of the Canadian market model's. Up until the 1970's, Rolex Canada was run as an autonomous company with a variety of different models not seen in the rest of the World.
One of the largest retailers of Rolex products in Canada was the now defunct Eaton Department store chain. They not only sold Rolex watches as part of their brand name Solar but also gave solid gold models to employees as Quarter Century gifts with only the Eaton name on the dial.
This 1940's Oyster has a great vintage 24 hour dial with all original luminous and patina. Some of the hand luminous has dropped out over the past 70 years but i have chosen to have it remain original.
The case is marked Oyster Watch Company and RWC (Rolex Watch Company). The movement is a Tudor stamped Calibre 59 model.
The watch was just serviced and is still fitted with the original Oyster Patent crown which still screws down to the case tube.
The watch measures 30 mm wide (excluding the crown) by 39 mm long. This is refereed to as a boy-sized Oyster. The buyer has a choice of black or brown leather strap.
