The Benrus Sky Chief Chronograph is perhaps the first collectible vintage watch made by Benrus.
The Benrus Sky Chief chronograph first found favour with pilots and it is that relationship with aviation that spawned its popularity in the 1990’s.
There are actually 2 versions of the Sky Chief, this model with the famed Valjoux cal 72 movement and the other model using the Valjoux 71 movement. The Valjoux 72 manual wind chronograph movement was just serviced is functioning flawlessly.
The original black glossy dial has large Arabic luminous numerals. The 7 hour marker is slightly faded but is hardly distracting. The dial and hands including the luminous are all original on this watch.
The steel case is hallmarked with the manufacturers marks of Gay Freres the famed Swiss case and bracelet maker. The case condition is outstanding as the case does not appear to have been polished in the 60 years or so since it was made. Note the sloping angle on the lugs.
The watch measures 35 mm wide by 43 mm long and is supplied on a new black padded sports stitched leather strap.
