This is a transitional model by Rolex. A 1963 vintage Rolex Submariner manufactured during the switch from Radium to Tritium dials.
The dial has the highly cherished and sought after underlined script. The dial has the four lines of text indicating the watch is a Superlative Chronometer Officially Certified. The text is in gilt and silver script. Under all that is a subtle underline, which is thought to signify the switch from Radium to Tritium.
The dial has some aging and uneven aging to the luminous. With all the fakes around there is no argument as to the authenticity of this rare watch.
The watch case is the early pointed crown guard model and carries the case reference 5512.
The inside of the caseback is stamped 5513 and II/63 showing it was made in the second quarter of 1963. These watches with underlined text appear to have been made during a 3-4 month period in 1963.
The chronometer rated calibre 1560 perpetual automatic movement was serviced by my watchmaker and is keeping excellent time.
The older style bezel insert has a tritium luminous dot and is nicely faded by natural aging. There is one white spot on the insert.
The watch s a genuine collectible is as found condition. The watch was taken in one trade over 8 years ago an has been in my personal collection since then.
