The Bulova Astronaut was introduced in the 1960’s to capitalize on the publics interest with the fledgling NASA space program. The watch features a rotating 24 hr bezel and separate 24 hour GMT hand.
Bulova actually made many of these watches available to the Astronauts and NASA staff as a promotional tool and there is some evidence that more than one of these watches made it into space on the wrists of Astronauts. Note the photo of Scott Carpenter wearing the watch on the cover of a magazine in 1962.
The watch uses the benchmark Accutron 214 tuning fork movement pioneered by Bulova and adopted by many companies in the 1960’s and 70’s.
This watch is in all original condition with the exception of the bracelet which has been replaced over time with a period correct steel bracelet. The movement was just serviced and a proper battery replaced at that time.
The watch measures 38 mm wide by 39 mm long and can be supplied with a black leather strap also.
