A vintage Rolex Submariner reference 5513 dating to 1970. This stunning vintage watch is all original Rolex, recently serviced by my Rolex trained watchmaker. The watch features an all original matte black dial with Serif hour markers. The hour marker luminous plots have aged to a gentle aged parchment to match the original hands fitted to the watch.
This vintage Rolex Submariner is clearly marked on the case between with the lugs with the model number, reference 5513 and at the opposite end, the serial number in the 2.9 million range is equally legible.
The parts that were changed over the years include a newer bezel insert with a Luminova pearl, the crystal and a heavy Oyster bracelet was fitted at some point. The date code on the bracelet, M2 reveals it was manufactured in 1982. The bracelet shows only a slight amount of wear and as you can see from the profile photo of the buckle, the buckle is in excellent and tight condition.
The case appears to have been polished very lightly over the years and the lugs are still quite thick. With the fraudulent practices used in replicating “unpolished watches” this is a welcome sign of authenticity.
The Rolex automatic calibre 1520 movement in the watch was serviced in 2014 and the genuine Rolex mainspring was replaced at that time with another genuine Rolex product.. The watch runs flawlessly. Please note the older style of crown and tube on this watch. The original Rolex model 702 crown and tube are still fitted to the watch and the crown screws down securely to the tube. Although i have tested the watch for water resistance and it has passed, I am not able to guarantee the water resistance on a vintage watch. I don’t recommend risking this beauty in the bathtub.
The serial number as well as the stamping inside the case back date this watch to 1970 and fits perfectly into the period that Rolex was producing the Serif pattern dials.
The watch is supplied on a the previously mentioned Rolex Oyster bracelet, ref 93150 as well as a grey cloth NATO strap. We can only accept wire transfer on this watch given the price.
